Exercise referral programme

Pilates Donegal will shortly be introducing a new exercise programme for patients referred by their GP or Physiotherapist.

The purpose of the programme is to improve the health and wellbeing of inactive individuals and encourage long-term lifestyle change.

In particular it is aimed at individuals who have a medical condition that will benefit from exercise. Most health conditions are helped by being physically active.

Exercise can improve quality of life by:

  • reducing deaths from heart disease
  • helping control blood sugar levels
  • reducing blood pressure
  • helping control cholesterol levels
  • increasing bone density
  • building all over body strength
  • reducing body fat
  • reducing back pain.

The new exercise referral programme will include:

  • an individual assessment
  • development of a tailored physical activity programme
  • monitoring of progress
  • follow-up with the referring professional.
